Call for Submissions: Black Alive and Looking Back at You

Announcing a submission call for our Summer 2021 Issue!

Summer 2021 (Vol.44.1) – "Black Alive and Looking Back at You"*
Guest Editors: Leslie Joy Ahenda & Chimwemwe Undi
Submission Deadline: February 1st, 2021

CV2 is inviting poetry submissions from Black poets for a special issue edited by Leslie Joy Ahenda and Chimwemwe Undi.

Send us your daily beauties, your archived, your bits of blue. Tell us how you attend to this world that needs ending. We want to know what makes you laugh, and wonder, and pause on the sidewalk to photograph the sky. Here we are, alive. Send us the full range of you — your righteous anger, your well-earned rest. Send us what you welcome and refuse, live alongside and through. We want to see what you see, watching, looking right back.

*The title for this issue is drawn from Who Look at Me by June Jordan (1969).

Note: If your submission is in a language other than English or French, please include a brief English language preface describing the work in your cover letter.

Contemporary Verse 2 accepts online submissions only. Read our submission guidelines here. Submit your work using the link below:
