35th Anniversary Contest

CV2 Announces the 35th Anniversary Poetry Contest

In celebration of 35 years of fine poetry, CV2 has created the 35th Anniversary Poetry Contest. In 2010, Contemporary Verse 2 turns the big 35, and to give our birthday a special kick we have created a contest for the occasion.

1st Prize: $500.00 plus paid publication

2nd Prize: $300.00 plus paid publication

3rd Prize: $150.00 plus paid publication

Two Honourable Mentions will be awarded and will receive publication.

The rules are simple:

Entry fee of $24.00 per entry. Each entry can include from 1-4 poems and gets you a one year subscription, renewal or gift subscription to CV2.

The catch is that each poem must incorporate “35” somehow or somewhere in the submission. It could be that a poem is 35 lines or 35 stanzas or it could be that literally the number “35” is used or written out, or included in the title. All we ask is that if the use of “35” is not immediately obvious, for example each line is thirty-five words in length, that you include a note in the entry explaining how you have used the requisite number. Although we will award no extra points for being tricky, we are definitely open to innovation.

Payment

Entry fees can be paid by cheque, money order or paid online through PayPal. The fee is $24.00 per entry and includes a 1 year subscription to CV2.

Deadline

Deadline for contest entry has been extended to November 1, 2010.

Judging will be blind so send each entry with complete contact information on a separate sheet of paper with your name, address, phone number and email address if you have one. Each entry should include a line count which should not exceed 100 lines per poem. Manuscripts must be typed on 8.5 X 11 sheets of paper and if a poem is more than a page each page should include the title and be paginated and clipped. Please do not staple entries. Fax and email entries will not be accepted.

Entries will not be returned, but if you wish to be informed of the results please include a self address stamped envelope or a current email address. If you wish to be informed of the contest results please state this clearly in your contact information and tell us by what means you would like the results. Those who do not provide this information will not be sent the contest results.

Each piece must be original, unpublished and not sent elsewhere for publication, or broadcast. Any piece found to have been simultaneously submitted to or published by any means of publication including on the World Wide Web, broadcast, or another contest will be immediately disqualified.

You can enter as often as you like, only your first two entries will be eligible for subscriptions.

Winning selections will be published in CV2 volume 33 no. 3, Winter 2011.

The contest is open to international entrants.
