Turning 30 Twice Over

Yukio Mishima swore he’d die a beautiful corpse.

It was the age. The sixties feared the thirties.

At thirty something you got over it

And now that you approach thirty twice over

Not a corpse and not beautiful

You no longer read Mishima.

"CVII published some poems of mine early in the seventies and I am grateful for that, grateful the way only a young poet hoping to prove that she is a poet can be to see her poems in print among others. Literary magazines allow young poets to enter the expanding room and join the conversation that is literature. This old poet is grateful too that you have kept the conversation going for thirty-five years. Congratulations, and thank you."
