how to recognize change

Clouds scud by the moon and patches

of light appear in the snow-seeded clouds.

Greater temperature variation does not mean

we get nicer weather.

A dictionary of nerve endings bloom in

your lower back, you hum

when I touch you there, you say

the world stops.

How long will dead plastic cups poke

out of the first snow?

A baseball player threw a chair into the stands,

hitting a woman’s nose, snapping the cartilage.

Do you know

when things change?
